We took a hike up to black river peak. Our guide Alex was a very nice person and told us many things about mauritius. It was a very nice trip to the top of mauritius.

We hired a private guide through Yanature to hike Le Morne mountain. Our guide was Zack who was fantastic. We had a really great time with him. He was very knowledgeable about the island and the history of Le Morne. It took us slightly above two hours to reach the top and come back. I recommend starting the hike as early as possible. We started ours around 5:45am to hike before it really gets hot. We spent around 30 minutes at the top enjoying the views.

Really great trek up the mountain at Le Morne; Yan is very friendly, encouraging and no-nonsense! The view from the top is worth the effort. The first part of the climb is easy;the second part a bit of a scramble at times but not at all demanding really if you have a decent level of fitness and a bit of determination. I thoroughly recommend it- especially if you are lazing in a hotel all day on holiday eating and drinking, it will do you the world of good! Trainers required as a minimum; walking shoes preferable. Take water.

The experience with Yanature was absolutely amazing! They are the owners of the green fence, which restricts access to the more difficult part of this hike up to the Silver Cross. One can still pass the fence, but know that technically that is against local laws and incurs a high fine for trespassing if caught. Our guide, Alex, was amazing! He was very patient, despite clearly being far more skilled than anyone in our group. He knows the rock face and trails like the back of his hand. He has all the tips and tricks for getting to the top, and provided background, history, and folklore of the different stopping points on the way up. Definitely go with this group if you have the chance. As for what another review mentions--you will indeed need to be at the meeting point right on time because we left without a moment to spare. The reason is because the sun does set, and if the group chooses to wait, being on this hike at nightfall is obviously a bad idea.
